The church is now a Los Angeles Cultural Historical Monument Number 14. The Pioneer Church Association and the Chatsworth Historical Society are caretakers of this beautiful old building. They recently restored the front of the building as well as painted it a more vibrant shade of green. The doors were repainted, the windows spliced open to let in fresh air, and the floors were refinished. A new roof was also installed by the church members and local volunteers. The church is owned by the Pioneer Church Association and the congregation of St. Mary’s in Chatsworth.

Several famous entertainment figures are buried at Oakwood Memorial Park, including Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Their graves are not far from each other, and their family members are buried together as well.

Some of the other famous entertainers who are buried at Oakwood include Gloria Grahame and Stephen Boyd. Bob Crane was originally buried here, but he was later disinterred and moved to a grave in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.

One of the most interesting things about Oakwood Memorial Park is that there are so many celebrity graves. This is because the cemetery is situated in an area of town that was once a ranching and farming community. The landscape of the region makes it an ideal setting for Western films.

If you’re planning to go to Oakwood, be sure to bring a map or a GPS device. The cemetery is located in a remote section of the northwest San Fernando Valley and can be difficult to find unless you know exactly where to go. To get there, take the San Diego Freeway (405) to the Ventura Freeway and exit at the top of the north exit of Topanga Canyon Blvd. Follow the signs for Oakwood Memorial Park.

Once you’re at the cemetery, look for a small wishing well garden on the west side of the road just north of the church. There are some tall trees that line this offshoot road, and you’ll want to use these as landmarks. To reach Gloria’s grave, you’ll need to walk about 13 rows down from the curb and three rows down from the street. Then, you’ll need to walk about six more rows down to the southwest corner of the Sequoia section. His crypt is in Mausoleum #1, niche #257. The crypt is on the outside of the mausoleum wall and you’ll need to be facing towards it from the road.
